The manual
How LockInPoint works
Everything on the platform, what each part does, and what each part needs before it opens. Read it once and you will not meet a locked door you were not expecting.
Practice mode and CBT mode
Every sitting on LockInPoint runs in one of two modes, and you choose which at the practice chooser.
- Practice mode has no clock. Each answer is marked the moment you pick it and the full explanation opens underneath. Choose a single year in Practice mode and you sit that whole paper, not a sample of it.
- Timed CBT runs a strict clock and tells you nothing until you submit · the way the real hall works. Corrections and explanations arrive together at the end. You set the length - 10, 20, 40 or 60 questions - and the clock - 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
Walking the chooser is free. Pressing Start needs a signed-in account, and then an activated one · what activation costs.
Choosing your questions
The chooser asks three things in a fixed order: examination, then subject, then how to practise. Nothing picks an examination for you. At the last step there are four places the questions can come from.
- By year. Each year tile carries the number of questions that year holds, and a year with nothing behind it is never listed.
- By topic. The topics that subject is organised into, each with its own count.
- Random. A mixed set drawn from the whole subject.
- Tutorial questions. Teaching questions written by the tutors that never sat a past paper. Kept as their own source, and named as one, so you always know which of the two you are sitting.
If the year or topic you picked holds fewer than ten questions, the chooser says so before you start. If it holds none, it says that too.
Each examination keeps its own bank. JAMB Mathematics and WAEC Mathematics are organised apart because their syllabuses are, and a WAEC GCE question never appears in the WAEC May/June bank. Every examination we cover.
The JAMB mock
JAMB has a whole-paper sitting of its own. Use of English is always included and you choose three more subjects.
- The full mock is 60 Use of English questions plus 40 in each of your three subjects · 180 questions on one two hour clock, scored over 400. Each subject is also scored over 100, so you can see which one cost you the marks.
- A mini mock is 10, 20, 40 or 60 questions at 40 seconds each, with the score projected over 400 · short practice that still runs at exam pace.
Post UTME rooms
Every school on the Post UTME list has its own room, listed at the Post UTME index. A room has two sittings: Practice, which is 30 questions with the answer and explanation after each one, and CBT mode, which is 40 questions in 30 minutes.
The questions in a room are that school's own. The room resolves the school first and draws from its bank rather than from the whole Post UTME pool. A room whose bank is still being filled says so plainly rather than handing you invented questions.
Question Harvest
The Post UTME banks grow from students remembering real questions. If you have just written a screening, the harvest takes the ones you can still recall, while they are fresh.
- Sign in first. A contribution carries your name, and the form refuses an anonymous send.
- The school and the question are required. The options and the answer are optional · send the answer only if you are sure of it.
- One question per send. The form keeps the school name and clears the rest, so the next one is faster.
- Every submission lands as pending and a tutor approves or rejects it. An approved question is then added properly into that school's bank · nothing you type reaches other students automatically.
Inside a sitting
Both modes give you the same tools, with one exception: Ask Lumi is Practice mode only.
- Save bookmarks the question for revision · it waits for you at your saved questions.
- Report sends a broken or wrong-looking question to the tutors.
- Ask Lumi opens over the question without ending your sitting · Practice mode only. Timed CBT and both JAMB mocks carry no Ask Lumi button.
- Calc is a calculator, and Listen reads the question and every option aloud.
- The question map runs down the side · answered questions turn green, flagged ones amber, so you can see what you left behind.
Keyboard: A to H picks an option, N and P or the arrow keys move, F flags the question you are on.
Your answers, your position, your flags and your marked questions are saved as you go and flushed when the tab closes · a dead battery does not cost you the paper. Pick it up again from the Continue practice card on your dashboard.
In CBT the clock submits for you when it runs out. Submitting while questions are still unanswered asks you to confirm first.
Theory and Practical
WAEC, NECO and NABTEB each have a second half that is not multiple choice. Theory and Practical are full written sessions from the tutors · the working, not just the answer · filed by examination and subject, and read in the same reader as the notes. They start at the Hub, beside Materials.
In the Android and iOS apps, imported past papers sit alongside those sessions: numbered questions carrying their marks, walked by year or by topic. The marking scheme is never sent with the question · it arrives only when you ask for it, one question at a time. A theory question with its model answer already on the screen is a passage to read, not a question to attempt.
Theory and Practical need an activated account.
The Classroom and the Hub
The Classroom asks examination, then subject, then what you need · Notes, Videos or Files. The Hub is the same library entered from the other end: Materials, Theory, Practical.
- Notes open in a reader you can set to light, sepia or dark, in three typefaces, at any size from 13px to 24px. The setting is remembered for your account.
- Videos play on the page and need only a signed-in account.
- Files are PDFs, slides and textbooks. A PDF opens through the site with your identity burned diagonally into every page, generated on the server · the storage bucket is never exposed and nothing is cached.
Every note carries your own name across the page, and says plainly that a screenshot of tutor material is traceable to your account. Notes and files need an activated account.
Lumi
Lumi is the AI tutor built into LockInPoint · at the chat, and over the question inside a Practice sitting. A timed sitting does not offer it.
Lumi carries a small memory of you: your first name, the topics your own answered questions show you are weakest at, the subjects you have been working on lately, where the last conversation ended, and a way of teaching if you asked for one. Say “explain it step by step” or “keep it short” once and it holds until you change it.
What Lumi is not: inside a sitting Lumi is handed the question and the server deliberately withholds that question's answer and explanation, so you get a nudge rather than the answer key. Lumi stays on exam preparation, school subjects, study advice and motivation, and steers back when a question goes elsewhere. Lumi needs an activated account.
The games arena
Five games, all drawing live from the same published past question bank.
- Blitz 60 · sixty seconds. A correct answer pays 10 points plus 2 for each combo step, capped at five steps, so 20 is the most one question can pay.
- Survival · one wrong answer ends the run, and then shows you the correct letter and the start of that question's explanation.
- Road to 400 · fifteen rungs up to 400, with milestones at rungs five and ten that hold your score if you fall, and three lifelines: 50:50, a tutor whisper taken from the question's own explanation, and one skip.
- Daily Ten · the same ten questions for everybody on the platform that day.
- The Climb · played on one examination and one subject, and only subjects with enough four-option questions to fill all fifteen rungs are offered. Five lifelines exist and you take exactly three. Two safety nets: one fixed at question five, one you place yourself. You can walk away at any point with the rung below you. In clock mode you get 15 seconds for questions 1-5, 30 for 6-10 and 45 for 11-15, and every second you do not spend is banked onto the last question. The answer key never leaves the server.
Which scores count. Arcade scores are not leaderboard points. A personal best is written to the browser you played in and nowhere else, so a different phone starts you at zero. Leaderboard points come from real sittings and from turning up: 10 a correct answer, 25 a finished attempt, 100 a live streak day, 5 a visit.
The Climb needs an activated account. The other four need only a login.
The apps and the offline vault
LockInPoint runs on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux as well as the web. Installing costs nothing, and one activation opens the account everywhere · pay on the website and the phone opens too.
The apps keep a vault in two tiers.
- Text · questions, institutions and the games' pool. It downloads on first launch and cannot be skipped, so the app still works where there is no signal at all.
- Materials · PDFs, slides and notes, tens of megabytes each. Opt in, per subject and per file, so nothing spends your bundle on a file you did not ask for.
An offline pack carries the answers and explanations with it, so a sitting on a bus with no signal is still marked and still explained. Packs need an activated account, exactly as a live sitting does.
Aggregate and cut off marks
The aggregate oracle holds universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, colleges of nursing, monotechnics and institutes. Open any one and you get how that school calculates its aggregate, and the cut off range for each of its departments.
A range is drawn from recent sessions. It is a guide, not a promise · competition resets every year and the department's own release is final. Aim above the top of the range.
No account is needed to read any of it.
The Guardian Portal
A parent, teacher or school opens their own guardian account, separate from a student account.
- Linking needs the candidate's Product Key, which reads like LIP-7K4M-92QT and sits in their profile. Ask them for it · it is all you need.
- The key only lets you ask to follow a candidate. A correct key returns the candidate's name and nothing else, so you can confirm you linked the right child.
- A guardian sees results, subject strengths and progress. Never the student's password, their phone number or their payment details. The guardian can unlink at any time, and so can support.
Your account and your devices
A LockInPoint account works on one device at a time. Log in somewhere else and this one is signed out · the check runs when you come back to the tab, and every ninety seconds otherwise. It is what stops one paid account being passed around a class.
If you are signed out and it was you, carry on where you are. If it was not you, log back in here and change your password straight away.
Your Product Key, your receipts and your referral code all live in your profile. Your 7 digit activation key is a different thing · that one is a way to pay, and it is explained on the pricing page.
Where to start
- Pick an examination and a subject and sit something · a single year in Practice mode is the honest first test.
- Open the Classroom for the subject you just found hardest.
- See what activation costs in your country and what it opens.
- If none of this answered it, contact support or write to info@lockinpoint.com.
